Ralph Nanzer passed away on June 27, 2021 at the age of 90, surrounded by loved ones. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Wanda and three children and their spouses, Ralph Michael and Laurie Nanzer of Elk Grove, Noreen and Ron Kolek of La Quinta and Mark and Theresa Nanzer of Temecula. He joins his daughter Susanne and her husband Valentin Huerta in passing. Ralph was born in San Francisco and raised in the Bay Area. He graduated from San Jose State and joined the Army, serving for a year in the Korean War. Upon his return, he married his high school sweetheart, Wanda, on April 24, 1954. Ralph and Wanda raised their four children in San Lorenzo. While raising their family, Ralph and Wanda volunteered on the San Lorenzo Junior Chamber of Commerce with Ralph serving as chapter President. He and Wanda made significant contributions to the community and many lifelong friends. Ralph worked as a civilian employee of the Navy at the San Francisco Naval Shipyard until it’s closure in 1973. Ralph and family then moved to San Diego where he continued his employment with the Navy until his retirement in 1985. Ralph was an avid gardener and a member of the San Diego chapter of the Rare Fruit Growers Association. He loved golf and continued that passion into his 80’s. Ralph was beloved by his 6 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, a large circle of family and friends and will be greatly missed by all.
Services and Army Honors ceremony will be held on Monday, August 23, 2021 at 1 pm at Miramar National Cemetery, located at 5795 Nobel Drive, San Diego, CA 92122.
