As the daughter of a U.S. Naval officer, she lived in several states while growing up, including Florida, Alaska, New Mexico, and California. After her father’s retirement, her family settled in Lakeside, California, where Julie graduated from Grossmont High School.
She went on to attend Woodbury College in Los Angeles, where she was president of her sorority, Sigma Iota Chi, and wrote for her school newspaper. Here, she also met her future husband, Ronald “Ron” Ralphs. She and Ron wed in May 1961 at North Island Naval Air Station in San Diego, California, and were married for 54 years until Ron’s passing in 2015.
Julie spent the majority of her life on her ranch in Gorman, California, a place she held dear and called home for 65 years. She worked as a bookkeeper for her husband’s family business and enjoyed traveling with her family, vacationing in her family’s condominium in Laguna Beach as well as at her family’s cabin in the Sierra Nevada, Soda Flat.
She is survived by her three children: Erin Bawcombe of Temecula, CA; Gregory Ralphs of West Hills, CA; and Ryan Ralphs of Gorman, CA. She also leaves behind five grandchildren: Taylor DeVore, Kelsey Bawcombe, Tristan Ralphs, Cole Ralphs and Jordan Bawcombe; a sister, Susan Pettit and a brother, Mark Ferrell and nieces: Bergé Garcia, Ali Ferrell and Kati Ulbricht.
We will carry her memory in our hearts forever and she will be deeply missed.
A service will be held on Monday, July 14th, at 10:00 a.m. at El Cajon Mortuary, 684 South Mollison Avenue, El Cajon, CA, with a graveside ceremony at Singing Hills Memorial Park and reception to follow.
