Margaret Mary “Margie” Watson, age 82, a life-time resident of San Diego, CA tragically died Thursday, Sept. 30, 2021, after being struck by a car. Born in San Diego, the fourth child of Ray and Viola Deters of La Mesa, she is preceded in death by Charlie, her beloved husband of 52 years, brothers Lee (Pat) and Norman (Bea); survived by sisters Shirley Wilsterman (Tim) of Santee, Anna Pereira (Jerry) of Thousand Oaks, and Sr. Paulette Deters, CSJ from Orange; and Charlie’s beloved daughter Rhonda Widders (Don) from San Marcos.
After graduating from Rosary High School in 1956, Margie regularly attended Cathedral CYO dances & activities, socials that forged life-long friendships. She began working downtown at SDG&E, later transferring to the El Cajon office. It was there, while on the company bowling league, that Margie Deters met & competed against co-worker Charlie Watson, soon to be the love of her life. The rest is history. They married in 1967. After buying a new home in Tierrasanta in ‘71, the Watsons kept actively involved in the newly formed Ascension Parish, supporting church functions, esp. fiestas, fund-raisers, and KC events. They loved their parish priests, parties, potlucks, dances, and community. Margie was a Lector, Eucharistic Minister and regularly participated in religious devotions. She had a strong faith-life, and church and community were important. Margie had a generous and loving heart. She cherished the friendship & support of this community, esp. after Charlie’s death.
Retirement from SDG&E in the mid-90s allowed more time for Padre games, camping, boating/skiing in SD Bay & Lake Powell, visiting casinos, and traveling across the US, often visiting relatives in Indiana & St. Louis, or nieces & nephews here or afar. Family was important. They deeply loved their siblings, children, nieces/nephews, and extended families. They delighted relatives with birthday cards or singing HB phone calls. Their home was open; all were welcome.
Margie was enthusiastic, had a positive attitude, and loved meeting people. She was friendly and offered a welcoming smile. She had her struggles yet focused on the bright side of life. Balancing her own health issues, she maintained a healthy diet, exercise, and prayer. She nourished body & spirit with daily walks in the neighborhood, pausing to greet others on the way. Margie was grateful for the community of friends, family, and church—all sources of life and hope. Margie will be missed.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Margie’s honor to a worthy charity or to Ascension Parish for outreach to the needy.
