parents, Juan Jose Covarrubias and Sylvia Corralejo. She passed on January 31st, 2021, from
complications brought about by COVID-19. She was 35 years old.
Monica was a great sister and daughter, silently strong, you’d be hard-pressed to find a more
gentle and caring soul than Monica… but if you messed with her kids or her family, she’d
unleash the fierce momma bear within.
Above of all she was a devoted mother to her three children: Lizette, aged 16, Alberto, aged 14,
and Regalberto, 12. They are her pride and joy, and together we weep for they will not have
Monica to guide them here on earth, but her spirit will surely watch over them from high above.
To truly appreciate the tender love and care that Monica demonstrated everyday, we share an
excerpt written by her son, Alberto:
“My mom, where do I even start? So much to say about her beautiful soul. I was always her love
bug, at one point I got too old to be called that and I regret telling my mom to not call me that
anymore.
Always making our favorite food of hers, albondigas, she even taught me how to make it. My
mom was always checking up on everybody making sure they were okay and never thinking
about herself.
She was so genuine and delightful, it hurts writing this right now because she’s my mom and
she was always there, no matter how many arguments we had that day, or what I called her,
she never left.
I wish she lived a few more years so I could’ve made her future bright like I’ve always wanted to.
Our favorite movie that we could watch on replay for hours was “Day After Tomorrow” even
though it made us so scared. She loved salt and vinegar chips even though we would always
make fun of her for liking them. She also loved getting her 7-Eleven iced coffee, her favorite
flavor was French Vanilla. She LOVED crime shows and scary movies no matter how scared
she would get.
I can still smell her sunflower perfume (her favorite). There’s way more but that’s for later.
Wow… I really miss my beautiful mother… may she Rest In Peace.”
She is survived by her three beautiful children: Lizette, Alberto, and Regalberto; her mother,
Sylvia Corralejo, and her five siblings: Angelica, Jose (Lolo), Ernesto (Neto), Marco, and Juan
Jose Jr.; her grandmother, Maria Isabel Corralejo, and Tias Martha, Cristina, and Lety Corralejo,
as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless others whose lives she touched
during her brief 35 years on earth.
Monica was preceded in death by her father, Juan Jose Covarrubias Nuno, who also passed
away from COVID-19. May they both Rest in Peace.
