On December 14th, I lost my favorite Uncle. Norman Leonard was a huge humanitarian and a wonderful human being. He was a beloved professor whose students reached out to him even after his retirement. His love for the Kurdish and Filipino people was undeniable. He traveled to Iraq, Iran, Pakistan and many other parts of the Middle East to try to help those that were oppressed by suppressive governments. He loved language and spoke several fluently. He was especially fond of keeping seldom spoken languages alive. He spent all of his free time doing charity work for refugees and those in need of help. I am so very proud of him. He was not happy with our current politics and I am so sad that he didnt live to see the pendulum swing back to justice. His wonderful husband Raymond Zitella cared for him in sickness and in health and shared so many precious memories with him for the last 30 years. My heart breaks for you Uncle Raymond. He loved good food, the company of great friends, stirring conversations and helping those in need. Uncle Norman, I love you with all my heart. Thank you for always making me feel special.
