
Skip, as he best known, was born and raised in Kentucky. He attended the University of Kentucky before moving to San Diego in 1957. He briefly attended San Diego City College before earning a bachelor’s degree in business and economics from San Diego State College in 1967.
Skip and his wife Marilyn moved to Alpine in 1976. After getting his real estate broker’s license, Skip opened Western Realty in downtown Alpine in the early 80’s. He had to retire in 2000 after suffering a major stroke.
For over 40 years Skip and his wife owned and bred top-winning Anatolian Shepherd Dogs including the very first Anatolian Shepherd AKC champion of record and the first Anatolian in history to win best of breed at the prestigious Westminster KC. As secretary of the Anatolian Shepherd Dog Club of America for 24 years, he helped establish the breed in the U.S. including overseeing the parent club’s successful petition for recognition of the breed by the American Kennel Club in 1995.
Quinn Shreve (“Skip”) Harned is survived by his wife of 47 years, Marilyn of Alpine, CA.
Graveside Services will be held at Singing Hills Memorial Park on April 11, 2017 at 10:30 a.m., 2800 Dehesa Road, EL Cajon, CA 92019.
