

Richard Andrew Halliday of El Cajon, CA passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Jan 12, 2026 at his home. Rich was originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan where he grew up and attended East Grand Rapids schools. He went on to Miami of Ohio University for his bachelors degree in education, then earned his masters degree in English at University of Michigan. His life long love of music and his band took him to California. Eventually, he left his band to begin a career as an English teacher at Miramar College. He retired from there at the age of 70. Other interests included his involvement with his church, Calvary Chapel in Alpine, where he was part of the praise and worship band. Rich also was very dedicated to jail ministry where he shared his music and faith.
Rich was predeceased by his parents, William and Lois Halliday of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Surviving family members include 3 siblings, Carol Halliday Murphy (Jerry), Marcia Halliday, and James Halliday (Tamerie). Rich also left behind 2 nieces and 1 nephew as well as 7 grand nieces and nephews. He also has one surviving cousin, Sue Cody. Rich was a kind-hearted and generous person with many friends and family. He will be missed greatly!
Memorial and celebration of life service will take place at Calvary Chapel of Alpine, 2267 W. Victoria Drive., Alpine 91901 on Sunday Jan.18th. Gathering and visiting time will begin at 11:00, followed by the memorial service at 12:00 noon. Thank you all!
