November 5, 1948 – May 5, 2018
Sharon Johnson was a lover of life. She was born in Anne Arundel, Maryland. She lived in Maryland the early part of life surrounded by loving family including active grandparents. After high school and thanks to her step father and the United States Navy, Sharon moved with her mother to sunny San Diego. Sharon’s mother introduced her to the Johnson Family and she was hooked. Sharon stayed in San Diego and surrounded herself with Johnsons. David Leland Johnson caught her eye and it was love from the beginning. Sharon always said that she was put on the earth to have a family. David gave her the opportunity and privilege of being a mother. Nothing made her happier than being surrounded by first her children and then grandchildren. Sharon and Dave lived for family. They enjoyed being surround by kids this meant there was room in their hearts for all children. Their hearts were open to all the kids on soccer, baseball, softball teams and throughout the neighborhood. Sharon made sure she was active in the kids sports and classrooms. Our friends became their children as well. There was always enough love and food to go around.
Sharon did not just support her children in sports but was active in her own right. She thrived in horseback riding including Hunter Jumper class. She loved horses and even though she was in a wheelchair this year made it to the Del Mar National Horse Show. Her love of horses never faded.
Sharon’s greatest love besides her family was softball. She played in High School and when she moved to San Diego. She played the entire time her kids were growing up and made life long connections. She even played for her nephew Bob Johnson. The best softball team she ever played for was the Misfits. This team was her family. For the first time she was able to play on the same field as her kids. She also adopted everyone on the team. Mom loved playing right field for the team. We were not always successful, but we always had fun.
Sharon had a deep faith and love for God. She spent most of her life in the United Methodist Church. She believed in a God who loved everybody and was always there. She was fierce with her faith and love.
Sharon was diagnosed with malignant melanoma early in 2017. This did not change her. Family came first, and nothing was going to get her down. She fought cancer with sass, courage and dignity. She showed all of us that she was still that sweet strong woman that will never give up. To her last day she fought with dignity and class. Her doctors and nurses on 1 West could not believe the strength and grace she kept as declined further treatment.
She often wondered what her legacy would be after she returned to our Heavenly Father and her loving husband. We believe it is the lives she touched and the people she surrounded herself with. Her love and kindness touched all she came in contact with. Her legacy is the light and love she brought in this world. Death nor cancer cannot take away the love she supplied our lives.
Sharon Lee Johnson is survived by children; Michael Aaron Johnson, Jody Ellen Johnson, Donna Lee Ann Johnson Batteau. The lights of her life, her grandchildren; Cheyenne Lynn, Trevor James, Christian Michael, Brooke Angelina, and Brady Joel. She is also survived by all the children she was honored to call son, daughter, or grandchild. These were not hers by blood, only by love.
Sharon was met at Heaven’s entrance by her Soulmate David Johnson and her faithful companion Bear.
