I remember going with my parents James and Dawn Russ to the Carlton Oaks Country Club on several occasions to meet Tom and Andrea for a drink. Tom always made me laugh. He was such a character. So sorry for your loss Andrea. Tom will be missed. Sending my thoughts and prayers.

Back in 2001 I had gotten stationed in Yuma AZ and one liberty  weekend my friend and I decided to drive to San Diego for the weekend…unfortunately my car overheated about half way there and we were stuck on the side of the road in the hot California sun for hours waiting on a tow truck. Luckily I called my mom and she reminded me that Tom lived close and she was going to try and get in touch with him. Next thing I know I see a big ole pickup pulling up and rescuing us (praise Jesus) it was Tom!! Since that day I kept in contact for the most part but that’s my favorite memory of him, the day he became my guardian angel! Prayers to all of you! 

On December 3 2021 I heard the Bos’n pipe call “All Hands” followed by the word, 
                   “Now Hear This”!
“Fireman Thomas Benjamin Tibbits IV, United States Navy, you are relieved of all further earthly duties”.
“You are here-with ordered to duty with the Office Of The Supreme Commander”.
“You are to be highly commended for your exemplary performance during your assignment on Planet Earth.  Your dedication to your God,  your country, your family members and shipmates, and acquaintances has been exemplary and worthy of note”.
Your duties at this heavenly command will be to reunite with those who have preceded you to this command, and to prepare accommodations for those loved family members and shipmates mourning your loss and celebrating your new assignment of Joy and Restful Peace”.
                “That is all! Carry on”!


As parents it’s really hard to process , how can this be! We already miss him so much.  If we didn’t know he moved to Heaven it would be unbearable. He loved living on a ranch as a boy, riding horses, learning to work hard. After high school he went into the Navy, traveling the world where he learned a lot and was successful. After the Navy he was a successful hard working businessman. He loved making people laugh and was a huge cut up. 
He loved his family very much. 
He would text us 2 or 3 times a day with historical facts, calculus math problems, or maybe a Bible verse and always a new word to learn. So we are missing his antics and humor so much. 
It’s too quiet!!
But we will meet again someday on the shores of Heaven. 
Psalms 27:4 one thing I ask The Lord, this only do I seek, that I may dwell in the house of The Lord all the days of my life to gaze on the Beauty of the Lord and to seek Him in His temple.

It’s a tough thing to mourn the loss of someone you love, but at the same time be at peace. There has been a ton of questions that will go unanswered but, ultimately that will never bring you back. You brought so much joy to so many lives, always kept an open mind and made everyone you encountered laugh. Tom Tibbitts was known to be the loudest guy in the room and the life of the party but to me you were just Dad. I will miss so much about you; your honest opinions, all your stupid jokes and laughs, your daily texts of the “word of the day”, our poem exchanges and so much more. You’ve taught me to be a strong, independent, hardworking women and I’ll be sure to instill that same thing into your grand girls. Your legacy lives on forever and you will forever be missed. I love you Dad. 

Words cannot explain my love for you. You are and will always be my everything.  You have always taken my breathe away.  I will meet you in heaven someday.   I hope you are at peace.  Forever and ever my love.

I've known Thomas long enough to understand and appreciate the gentle soul that resided in that "rough rider".   A very unique person that touched my life with his stories from his youth in So. Dakota thru his days serving our country.  I am very blessed to have known him.

My heart goes out to Andrea and the Tibbitts family in the loss of Tom.  I met Tom and Andrea in 2014 and we bonded because both Tom and I are from South Dakota.  He told me about his father and mother and how much he loved them.  A special story Tom shared was about his father's efforts to have rodeo as the official sport of South Dakota.  Tom and Andrea were always there for me and we talked about many things going on in my life....both good and not so good.  I will truly miss him.  Andrea you will be in my prayers and let me know if you need any help.
