Walter Eugene Burgoyne IV

Walter Eugene Burgoyne IV “Gene” was born on January 20, 1959, in Riverside, CA to Walter Eugene Burgoyne III and Judith Ann Selters.

Gene, a devoted and loving family man, went to be with our Lord on January 31, 2026 at the age of 67.

In 1962, he moved with his family to Chula Vista, CA. He attended Castle Park High School where he played on the water polo team, served on the ASB and was voted “Most Likely to Succeed” when he graduated in 1977.

He received his AA in the plumbing trade in 1982 and had a successful 42-year career in the plumbing industry until his retirement in 2024.

In December, 1982, Gene married his best friend, Cathy Browne. They moved to Spring Valley where they raised their two beautiful daughters, Kimberly and Jessica.

Spending time with family was most important to Gene. He entertained all at gatherings with his perfectly timed one-liners and of course his dad-jokes. He loved nothing more than sharing an enjoyable Sunday champagne brunch with his family and friends. An avid Padres fan and season ticket holder, if Gene was not brunching on a Sunday morning you would find him at Petco Park enjoying baseball under the sun with good friends.

On Long weekends you would find Gene in Las Vegas, Laughlin or San Francisco. Cruising was his ultimate favorite. After 24 cruises he was titled the family Cruise Director.

Gene is survived by his loving wife Cathy, daughters Kimberly Paule (Loren) and Jessica Johnson (Kenney), 3 grandchildren; Olivia, Hailey and Jesse, mother; Judy Ostberg, step father, Mel Ostberg, brothers Steve Burgoyne (Cheryl) and Mike Burgoyne (Sharene) and sisters Teresa Hurst (Steve) and Kym Ostberg. He is predeceased by his father Walter Eugene Burgoyne III and his sister Kevia Jones.

Memorial Services will be held 1:00 p.m. on February 28, 2026 at El Cajon Mortuary; 684 S. Mollison Avenue, El Cajon, CA 92020
