

Bobby Joe Thompson, born on September 5th, 1932 in Longview, TX, passed away on July 11th surrounded by family and with his puppy, Gunny sitting in his lap. The second son of four siblings, he was known to a large group of friends as “Duce” and to a loving group of family members as “Pappaw”. A graduate of Texas High in Texarkana, TX and Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia AR., he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at the age of 19. He retired from the Marine Corps Reserves after 28 years of service at the rank of Master Gunnery Sargent. He worked for Murphy Oil Corporation for 30 years, retiring in 1996 as the Manager of the Credit Department.
He was a dedicated and humble man in his work and service to his community, family and God. He served as a deacon and a member of the choir at his home church, Rocky Spring Baptist Church in Libson, LA where he has spent the past 18 years enjoying life on Lake Claiborne with his wife Sandra. He also served as a member of Gideon's International and the Freemason's. He loved to fish, golf, work in the yard and play with his many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He leaves his wife, Sandra; brothers, Don and Truman; daughters, Lisa Vickery and husband Ian; Lori Thompson; Ashley Lambert and husband Bill; and son, Andy Chilcoat, as well as seven grandchildren, Austin, Lindsey, Brandon, Stephanie, Will, Spencer and Colton; and five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Edward and Thelma Thompson and brother, Malcolm.
Services will be held at Rocky Springs Baptist Church in Lisbon, LA on Saturday, July 16th with visitation between 10-11AM and a service to follow.
