Charlotte Gayle (Williams) Smith, 65, of El Dorado, Arkansas, ran joyfully home to the Lord on March 24, 2026, in Rogers, Arkansas, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her large and loving family.
She was born on October 26, 1960, in El Dorado, Arkansas, the youngest child of Olen “Pete” Williams and Mildred Walker Williams. El Dorado was the place she called home for most of her life. In her final years, she moved to Prairie Grove to be closer to her beloved grandchildren and to receive medical care, surrounding herself with the family she cherished most.
Charlotte was a woman who loved deeply and without condition. She was a devoted wife, a nurturing mother, and a joyful, adoring grandmother. Her heart was generous and tender—she could never ignore someone in need and was always ready to offer help, comfort, or encouragement. She made room in her life for everyone and was known for giving both people and animals a place to belong.
She had a lifelong love of arts and crafts, pouring care and creativity into everything she made. Art was her favorite subject in school, though it may have had something to do with her middle-school sweetheart coming to her classroom window with flowers from his mother’s florist shop. That young man became the love of her life, Kenneth W. Smith, and together they built a marriage that would have reached 49 years this May—a testament to enduring love and devotion.
Charlotte was the heart of her home. She was her children’s loudest cheerleader, always supporting their interests and encouraging their dreams. Her home was a place of welcome, where her children’s friends were treated like family and always wanted to gather. She delighted in hosting, and holidays under her care were filled with warmth, beauty, and celebration.
She had a gift for joy. Quick with a wisecrack and full of humor, Charlotte made people laugh easily and often—right up to her final days. She is forever cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know her loving heart.
Her faith was central to her life. She loved the Lord and reflected His love in the way she lived, offering a steady light to guide those around her.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Kenneth W. Smith; her son, Jacob A. Smith; her daughter, Sarah “Saoira” E. Smith-Tucker; her grandchildren, Minah Isobel Smith-Tucker, Isaak Penn Tucker, Oonah Charlotte Tucker, John Lucas Tucker, Liam Shem Henry Tucker, Phinn Solomon Tucker, Wynna Ealisaid Tucker, and one precious grandchild expected in June; her sister, Olenda Johnson; her lifelong friend, Judy Lynn Sewell; and many extended family members and loved ones.
Awaiting her in heaven are her parents, Olen “Pete” Williams and Mildred Walker Williams, her brothers, Olen Williams Jr. and Ricky Williams; and many loved ones whose memories she kept alive through her stories.
Visitation will be held Sunday, March 29, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Young’s Funeral Home in El Dorado. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 30, at 2:00 p.m., with burial to follow at Arlington Cemetery.
Her life was a gift of love, laughter, and faith, and her legacy will continue in the hearts of all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to UCAPS, P. O. Box 204, El Dorado, AR 71730 or to American Cancer Society, 2222 Cottondale Lane #310, Little Rock, AR 72202.
