

He was born May 28, 1931, in Hot Springs, AR, and was the son of Donald H. Travis, Sr. and Linnie Dillard Travis. He was a graduate of Ouachita Baptist University and attended Southwestern Baptist Seminary in Ft. Worth, TX.
He was ordained to the ministry in 1949 and pastored churches in Arkansas, Tennessee, Alabama, and Indiana. He was a former pastor of Lawson Baptist Church, Ebenezer Baptist Church, and Northwest Baptist Church. He had served as Interim Pastor of First Baptist Church in Smackover and Parkview Baptist Church. He also served several churches as Music Director. He was active in Liberty Baptist Association, where he served in several positions including Moderator of the Association. He was a member of Lawson Baptist Church, where he served as Associate Pastor working with Senior Adults, where his son now pastors. He also served as Chaplain for Life Touch Hospice, where he served on the Advisory Board.
Preceding him in death are his parents; a sister, Evelyn Jungkind, and two brothers, Robert Travis and Gerald Travis.
Survivors include his wife, Johnette Bradford Travis; three children, Don A. Travis (Robin) of Lawson, Debbie Nutt (Gerald) of Camden, and Deanna Sanders (Johnny) of Duncan, OK; six grandchildren, Michael Nutt of Fayetteville, AR, Brian Nutt (Rachel) of Rogers, AR, Kaci Travis and Callie Travis of Lawson, Rachel Holland (Nathan) of Bella Vista, AR, Johnny Sanders, III of Duncan, OK; and two brothers, Rev. William Travis (Wanda) of Bethpage, TN and Victor Travis (Shirley) of Grand Prairie, TX.
Funeral services will at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 5, 2012, at Parkview Baptist Church with Rev. Lyle Hern, Rev. Gary Glasgow and Rev. Don A. Travis officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Horeb Cemetery near Elliott under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.
Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at Young’s.
