

Mrs. Frances Goodson, 91 of El Dorado, passed away Wednesday, December 3, 2014, at Timberlane Health & Rehab. She was born July 19, 1923 to Sam and Maude Rhodes Spooner in the Scotland community near Junction City. She was the next to youngest of 13 children and the last surviving sibling and their spouses.
In 1941, she graduated from Junction City High School where she was senior class president, salutatorian, and homecoming queen. She attended Arkansas College (Lyon) in Batesville for two years.
During World War II, she left Union County to go to San Francisco to work for civil service in the Navy Purchasing Office.
Returning to Union County, she married Joe Goodson on July 2, 1948. They were married until the time of his death in 1997. One son was born to the union dying in infancy.
Due to ownership changes, she worked as chief switchboard operator for Lion Oil, Monsanto, and Tosco in her 38 year tenure.
Mrs. Goodson was a recipient of the Five Who Care award in 2006. She was a charter member of the Hillsboro Street Church of Christ.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joe Goodson; infant son; six sisters and their spouses; and 6 brothers and their spouses.
Survivors include numerous nieces & nephews and their families, a host of close friends.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Friday, December 5, 2014, at Young’s.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 6, 2014, at Young’s Chapel with Bro. Ken Stegall and Bro. John Fields officiating. Burial will follow at Arlington Memorial Park under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Elders and Deacons of Hillsboro Street Church of Christ.
