
Jeanne Shepherd, 90, of El Dorado, passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at the Medical Center of South Arkansas. She was born on January 24, 1921, in Canton, Illinois, to Ray A. and Fannie Rohrer Garber. As a teenager her family relocated to Arkadelphia, Arkansas where she graduated from Arkadelphia High School and attended Henderson State University. She married James Roland Shepherd on March 24, 1940, in Arkadelphia. They made their home in Arkadelphia until they moved to El Dorado in 1983.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and her brothers, Ray H. Garber and John R. Garber.
She is survived by her daughter, Jacquelyn Colvin (Bing) of Monticello, sons, Bill Shepherd (Melody) of Bothell, WA, and Judge Bobby Shepherd (Bobbi) of El Dorado. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, Dr. Kip Colvin of Memphis, TN, Amy Brunson of Monticello, Scott Colvin of New York, NY, Todd Shepherd (Jackie) of Jupiter, FL, Cory Shepherd of Manassas, VA, Marc Shepherd (Fatima) of Manassas, VA, Aaron Shepherd (Erica) of Kirkland, WA, Jamie Shepherd of Bothwell, WA, Matthew Shepherd (Alie) of El Dorado, Sarah Rainwater (John) of Little Rock, AR, and John Thomas Shepherd of El Dorado; and ten great grandchildren.
Jeanne was an expert seamstress. She was also a women’s ready-to-wear sales person for many years at Dew-Orr Department Store in Arkadelphia and B.W. Reeves & Co. Department Store in El Dorado. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of El Dorado, where she was a member of the Ruth Sunday School Class and the women’s Missionary Union. She also served on the Flower and Benevolence committees.
The family wishes to thank Jeanne’s care giver, Ms. Sheena Ford, along with Dr. Wade Parker, Dr. Robert Watson and the nursing staff at the MCSA for caring for Jeanne with such expertise and compassion.
Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday, July 17, 2011, at Young’s.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 18, 2011, at First Baptist Church, 200 W. Main, El Dorado, AR with Dr. Lynn Worthen officiating. Graveside services will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Rest Haven Cemetery in Arkadelphia under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.
