

John A. Burkland, affectionately known as Johnny B, 70 of Hooks, TX, formerly of El Dorado, passed away Sunday, October 4, 2015, in Texarkana, TX. He was born August 13, 1945, to Walter Albert and Hattie Lou Eastman Burkland in New Boston, TX.
He was the founder of Johnny B’s Grill and a member of Myrtle Springs Baptist Church. John was a veteran of the United States Airforce. He was a good guy who never met a stranger, and he was a giver.
Preceding him in death were his parents; four brothers, Steve, David, Wayne, and Bill; and a nephew, Tad Burkland.
Those left to cherish his memory are his three children, Sherry Cross (Bud) of El Dorado, Cristie Mays (JoJo) of El Dorado, and John “Marty” Burkland (Christina) of Camden; ten grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a sister, Ada Balmain (Gail); a brother Charles (Lonnie) Burkland; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 6, 2015, at Young’s Funeral Directors.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 7, 2015, in Young’s Chapel with Bro. Benny Womble officiating. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. in Red Bayou Cemetery in New Boston, TX.
The family will be at 5054 N. Wyatt Dr., in El Dorado.
