Born in El Dorado, Arkansas on September 10, 1927 he was the son of Judge Duff Rowan, Sr. and Cynthia Johnson Rowan. He had served in the United States Army Reserves for 30 years during which time he was on active duty for 2 years and retired as a Sergeant Major. He had also been employed and retired from Arkansas Power and Light Co.
He was faithful member of Smackover First Baptist Church for many years where he served as Sunday School Teacher, Church Treasurer and Deacon. He loved his church and his church family and was there anytime the doors were open for as long as he was able.
He was an avid fisherman, bee keeper and gardener while collecting cans and pull tabs to send to Arkansas Children's Hospital.
Preceding him in death along with his parents were a son, Rickey Ray Rowan and a sister, Berta Jo White.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 68 years, Mary Alice Rowan of Smackover, a daughter, Sheryl Taylor (Guy) of El Dorado, sons, Gregg Rowan (Carolyn), and Mike Rowan (Kathy) all of Smackover.
He was the best Papoo to his 5 grandchildren; Lindsey Taylor (Tad Hobbs), Matt Taylor (Danna) all of El Dorado, Cassie Hegwood (David), Bryce Rowan (Haley) all of Smackover and Chase Rowan (Spencer) of Elizabethtown, KY, along with great-grandchildren, Jace Lowery, Maycie Kate Taylor, Hudson Taylor, Cole Taylor, Alex Rowan, Eli Rowan and Jacob Hobbs. Also surviving are three brothers, Payton Rowan of Red Bluff, CA, Jimmy "Bud" Rowan and Clyde Rowan (Linda) all of Benton, AR and many nieces, nephews and cousins whom he loved dearly.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 25, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Young's. A celebration of his life will be held at Smackover First Baptist Church Thursday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Ray Wells and Rev. Carly Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Smackover Cemetery with full military honors by the U.S. Army Honor Guard. Services are under the direction of Young's Funeral Directors.
