

Leon graduated from Arkansas College (Lyons College) with a degree in accounting and a minor in Bible. After graduation, he worked in Thermopolis, Wyoming on a seismograph crew. He was drafted to serve his country in Korea and was sent to Indianapolis, Indiana to train. There he met the love of his life, Alpha (Sue) Despain. After returning from Korea, they settled in Junction City, Arkansas, where they raised their 4 children. They were married 63 years. Leon worked as an accountant with Murphy Oil for 36 years. After retirement he and Sue spent their time with their church and family. Leon loved Jesus and served Him as an ordained Elder at the church he loved, Scotland Presbyterian Church in Junction City, Arkansas.
Today his family lives in the comfort and joy of knowing that Pop is singing and dancing before His King… Hearing well done thy good and faithful servant.
Preceding him in death are his parents, two brothers and one sister.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Sue Ethredge of Junction City, AR; three daughters, Ann McDaniel (David) of Belcher, LA, Vicki Pepper (Bruce) of El Dorado, AR & Mary Kennedy (Billy) of College Station, TX; one son, David Ethredge (Susan) of Mountain Home, AR; one brother, Donald Ethredge (Lisa) of Hawley, PA; twelve grandchildren, Melissa Fultz, Wesley Greene, Ashley Miller, Jonathan McDaniel, Ryan Pepper, Amy Hough, Laura Fellows, Michael Ethredge, Will Kennedy, Lexie Kennedy, Brooks Kennedy and Anna Cate Kennedy and eleven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Scotland Presbyterian Church with Dr. Ben Wasson officiating. Burial will follow at Scotland Presbyterian Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.
Visitation will be held 5:30-7:30 p.m. Friday at Scotland Presbyterian Church.
Memorials may be made to Scotland Presbyterian Cemetery or Operation Christmas Child.
