

Lyda Grace Calhoon, 98, of El Dorado, died of natural causes at St. Vincent's Hospital in Little Rock on Tuesday, September 18, surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, the late Omer "Ju Ju" Calhoon.
Born February 16, l914, in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, daughter of the late George Hamlin and Allie Pearl Freeman, she and her five siblings, all also preceding her in death, moved to El Dorado in 1921, where she was a member of First Baptist Church of El Dorado for ninety-one years. Among her many activities at First Baptist, she was a member of the Ruth Bible Class, Prime Timers Choir, and secretary of the nurseries. She also spent many years working in the various school Parents' Clubs, and for 12 years, she was involved as a leader with the Girl Scouts.
Surviving family members include sons Dr. Jan Calhoon and wife Sheila of Dallas, TX; Ken Calhoon and wife Maureen of Little Rock; Ricky Calhoon and wife Ann of Jackson, Miss; and one daughter Susan Adkins and husband Tom of Houston, TX. She was blessed with 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 P.M. Friday at Young's Chapel with Dr. Lynn Worthen officiating. There will be a private family burial in Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Directors.
The family would like to give special thanks to Sarah Beth Kinard of the Ruth Bible Class and to her caregivers Patsy Rodgers, Glenda Jackson, and the late Barbara Atkins who all helped make her last few years at home such happy, quality years. They are also grateful to the personnel of Hidden Valley Ranch Nursing and Rehabilitation in Little Rock, where they provided such outstanding care, warmth, and entertainment for our mother for the past two years.
