

Martha Jane Simmons, 84 of El Dorado, passed away, Thursday, November 13, 2014, at the John R. Williamson Hospice House. She was born July 29, 1930, to S. K. and Addie Simpson Goodnight in El Dorado, AR.
She was an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church and sang in the choir, she has a beautiful alto voice, taught Sunday school and was a member of the “Unbirthday Club”. Martha was a retired secretary for Lion Oil where she worked with the engineers. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, who loved sewing and reading her Bible.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, David Gilmer Douthitt; son, Robert Edward Douthitt; step-son, Greg Simmons; step-daughter, Robin Simmons; two sisters, Velma Reding, Agnes Anderson; and three brothers, Leonard Goodnight, Gerald Goodnight, James Goodnight.
Survivors include her husband of 29 years, John Burt Simmons; daughter, Lucy Ann Arnold (Ray) of Springdale, AR; son, Daniel David Douthitt of El Dorado; step-son, Steve Simmons of El Dorado; granddaughter, Lauren Rebecca Tilton of Little Rock, grandson, James Aaron Tilton (Katie) of Dallas, TX; great grandson, Blake Tilton; nephew Cliff Reding (Charlotte) of Denton, TX; and two brother-in-laws, Jack Reding of Denton, TX, and Milton Simmons (Mary) of Shreveport, LA.
Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Saturday, November 15, 2015, at Young’s.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 16, 2014, at Immanuel Baptist Church with Rev. Bruce Murphy and Kay Rudell officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.
