Born July 23, 1917 in Shelby County, Tennessee she was the daughter of Joe and Lider Fitch Snipes. Shirley worked for Murphy Oil Company in the accounting department and retired in 1983. She was a strong Christian and devout church goer. Her giving and caring personality will be remembered most by her loved ones. She shared her talent for cooking with many people, although she was not always willing to give up her recipes easily. Her home cooked meals were always wonderful and will be missed by her family. Shirley was also an avid quilter and enjoyed reading.
One of her favorite Bible verses was 1 John 5:13, “These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, in order that you may know that you have eternal life.”
Preceding her in death along with her parents were a sister Mary Joe Ables, and husbands James M. Willett and Joe Liberto and her son, James Murphy Willett Jr.
She is survived by her grandchildren Jason (Stephanie) Willett and Leah Willett; and great grandchildren Lukas and Emi McGhee, and Paige and Trent Willett.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 26, 2016 in Arlington Memorial Park with Jason Willett officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.
In honor of Shirley, the family asks that donations be made to The Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org/donate.
An online registry will be available at www.youngsfuneralhome.com.
