

Albert S. Adkins Jr. completed his journey to be with the Lord on March 10, 2015. He was born to Albert S. Adkins Sr. and Mary Maybelle Cunningham on March 21, 1924. He grew up in El Paso and attended Crockett school before graduating Austin High. He graduated from Texas College of Mines (UTEP) with a Business degree in 1948. He married Grace Mary Priest in 1946.
Al joined the Marine Corps in the fall of 1942. He served in the South Pacific, making landings on Eniwetok Atoll, Guam and Okinawa. After graduating college, he began his business career with Singer Business Machines. He had many successful business ventures over the next 60 years. He moved his family to Illinois in 1957 but returned to El Paso in 1970. He loved El Paso and was involved and held offices in many organizations including Rotary Club of El Paso, Visiting Nurses Association, the El Paso County Historical Society and more. For Al, the glass was always half full.
He was preceded in death by his wife Grace (they married 69 years ago this coming May), He is survived by his sister Kay (James) Tumelty, sister-in-law Anna Louise Meece; his three sons Sam (Patricia), Mike (Vicki), Dave (Susan), His nine Grandchildren; Anna (Ron), Sarah (Ben), Krista, Scott, Laura (Cole), Traci (Justin) , Sean (Leslie), Craig, and Amy, as well as his seven great-grandchildren Clayton, Dawson, Brooke, Caitlyn, Mason, Zoe, and Julia with two on the way. And also many cousins, nieces and nephews.
His funeral service will be held Friday March 20, 2015 at 1:00 PM at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 1500 Belvidere. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the UTEP Adkins Family Endowment Fund, The Rotary Club of El Paso Foundation or the charity of your choice.
