Alfonso Jaime Frescas, 82, of El Paso, Texas, passed away on February 10, 2026, with his family by his side. He was a beloved father and grandfather, and his memory will be treasured in the hearts of those who love him.
Jaime dedicated his life to providing love and support to his family. After graduating from Bowie High School, he began his work life in the El Paso area where he made countless friends and acquaintances over decades. Also in El Paso, Jaime met his wife of 50 years, Velia Frescas, and together they raised daughters Christina and Jessica with kindness, a sense of humor, and great love. His presence was one of comfort, thoughtfulness, and generosity.
Jaime was a strong and loving father, and he instilled the values of integrity and self-reliance in his daughters. Always a protector, Jaime stressed the importance of being prepared to respond to the surprises that life might bring. He was a life-long learner and enjoyed absorbing new information daily, keeping up to date with all types of news. Jaime showed great compassion in his love for the many dogs and cats that became a part of his life. His love of the outdoors was evident in his passion for our desert southwest. Jaime also had an interest in the wonders of our solar system, as well as a curiosity in the study of language. He could enjoy a conversation regarding just about any subject but loved patriotic discussions about our country and stories describing 1940s and 1950s El Paso. Jogging was a pastime of Jaime’s for many years, and senior citizens’ dances also became a great source of entertainment.
Jaime could not have been more proud of his grandchildren, and he loved them wholeheartedly. He enthusiastically attended their school events and performances. Always thinking about their happiness and well-being, he inquired about them daily when they moved to college, often warning of any harsh weather that might be headed their way. As his main priority was taking care of his family, Jaime was his wife’s caretaker from the time she became ill until the time of her passing. Even in his final days, he ensured that his daughters, son-in-law, and grandchildren were doing well and would be happy and safe in the future. Jaime’s dedication to his family was endless, and his loved ones will live with the immeasurable impact he had on their lives.
Jaime is preceded in death by his parents Arnulfo Frescas and Natalia Frescas, brothers Arnulfo Frescas Jr. and Salvador Frescas, and his wife Velia Frescas. He is survived by daughters Christina Frescas and Jessica Barnes, son-in-law Vincent Barnes, grandchildren Jacqueline Barnes and Nicholas Barnes, and numerous dear nieces and nephews.
