Alicia L. Armendariz passed away unexpectedly, Tuesday October 6, 2015, at her home after spending a quiet morning working in her garden. She would have celebrated her 87th birthday next month. She was born and raised in El Paso, Texas. She attended the ORIGINAL Bowie High School, graduating in 1946. She was still actively involved with her alumni class group. She worked for many years as a dental assistant, retiring upon the death of Dr. Robert A. Suhler – she also worked hard to earn her real estate broker’s license, working independently from home. She loved travel of all kind - traveling to Hawaii, various places in Europe, and all over the country to visit her daughters. She loved working in her home’s gardens and yard, never pulling up a flower or plant simply because it sprouted up somewhere unplanned. She also loved visiting the slot machines – joking she was having a blast spending her daughter’s inheritance. She was also the neighborhood “cat lady”, as all strays knew they could count on her for two square meals a day, and a neuter/spay. Our cherished “Licha” will be remembered for her wonderful and wicked sense of humor, her laugh, and the fierce loyalty shown to her loved ones. Her beloved daughter, Elizabeth Rubalcava, preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughter, Laura Ericson, her sister Helvia Martinez, two granddaughters, two great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Special thanks are to be extended to her niece, Sharon Robinet, and long-time family friend, Letty Vargas. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 12, 2015 at Hillcrest Funeral Home-Carolina with a Memorial Service at 11:00a.m. Service under the direction of HILLCREST FUNERAL HOME 1060 Carolina 598-3332
