

Althea Jongsma Veiga, aged 72, died peacefully on October 29, 2014, at home after a valiant battle against ovarian cancer. She was born in Holland on April 25, 1942, to Willem and Tillie Jongsma. At the age of 10, Althea moved to Chino, California, where her family ran a dairy business. She married George Veiga in Chino, and they started their own dairy in El Paso, Texas, in the early 80s. Althea had a happy, outgoing, and optimistic personality, which made her a wonderful wife and mother. Once her children were grown, she owned her own shoe business inside of Lady Oxford and Valentine’s in El Paso. She is preceded in death by her parents, Willem and Tillie Jongsma, and her brother, George Jongsma. She is survived by her husband, George Veiga, and their children and their families: Teresa Windham and husband, Darrell Windham, and their children, Kendle and Zachary of Austin; Gina McLean and her husband, Michael McLean, and their children, Kara and Alison of El Paso; and George Veiga II and his wife, Elsa, and their children, George III and Will of El Paso. She is also survived by her sister, Gertie Swager of Portales, New Mexico, and her brothers John Jongsma and Henry Jongsma of California. A visitation is scheduled for Sunday, November 2nd, from 3-5 p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home, 5054 Doniphan Dr. and a graveside service will be held Monday, November 3rd at 10:00 a.m. at Memory Gardens of the Valley, 4900 McNutt.
