Anna is survived by her sisters Gloria Fernandez (Robert) and Rachel DeAnda (Lalo) and brother, Robert Velarde and numerous nieces and nephews.
Anna was raised in the lower valley, attended North Loop Elementary and was a graduate of Ysleta High School. She met the love of her life in 1950 and was married on April 1, 1951 at Guardian Angel Church. After her youngest child reached the age of 3 years old, she attended UTEP where she was named to the Dean’s list. She completed her degree and soon after began teaching with EPISD. She taught at Zavala, Roosevelt, and Crockett Elementary Schools. After completing 25 years of service with EPISD, she retired from teaching. Along with her husband, they established Santoscoy Insurance Company/Farmer’s Insurance Agency.
Anna volunteered in many civic organizations including the Lioness Club which she helped charter. With her best friend, Espi, they worked on many community projects. Anna was a very giving and empathetic person. She always was eager to help and many benefited from her hard work and kind heart.
Anna was a very loving and supportive wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and sister. She loved laughter, had a great sense of humor and always lived life to its fullest. She often played jokes on her children and grandchildren. She was a great example of perseverance, and independence which were qualities many recognized and praised her. These same qualities she instilled in her children and grandchildren. She was uplifting, caring and always up for an adventure. While visiting her nephew in Cleveland she had no hesitation in joining him and her husband on a white water rafting trip. She loved to travel, visit family and places she dreamed of. An especially memorable trip with her husband and children was a fantastic trip throughout Europe one summer; it is one her children will never forget
