Armando Lechuga, 76, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, was received into the hands of his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, in El Paso, TX. He was the only son of four children born to the late Gonzalo and Josefina Lechuga, in El Paso, on September 14, 1945, and was a lifelong and proud El Paso resident. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1964 and enjoyed many reunions with fellow alumni. There he met the love of his life, Delfina “Rosa” Cubillos. The high school sweethearts were married on July 25, 1970, and were happily blessed with four children and ten grandchildren. He was a proud Miner graduate of the University of Texas at El Paso with two Bachelor of Science degrees – one in Electrical Engineering and another in Metallurgical Engineering. In between the two degrees, he was drafted into the US Army in 1969 and served time in Vietnam during the war. After almost two years, he was released from service in 1971, having achieved the rank of Sergeant. After his service, Armando went on to have a successful engineering career, retiring from White Sands Missile Range in 1996.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Maria Concepcion “Concha” Rios and Magdalena “Nena” Zambrano, and his son Armando Lechuga, Jr. He is survived by his wife of over 51 years, Delfina; his daughter Rosa Maria and husband William Heim and their four children - Emily, Jarod, Sydney, and Lindsey; his son Adrian and wife Diana Klinger and their four children – Helena, Alexander, Cristian, and Jason; his daughter Amanda Michelle and husband Ken Miyamoto and their two daughters – Michelle and Alexa; his sister Irene Beltran and many nephews and nieces who all knew him as Uncle/Tio Mando.
Armando was also a very devout and faithful Roman Catholic and was a longtime member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. There he developed many friendships with his community the Earthen Vessels and volunteered regularly with the St. Vincent de Paul Society. During his retirement (and even before) he enjoyed playing golf and poker with friends and family and going on frequent trips to Las Vegas. He was quite the handyman and enjoyed renovating his house and other family properties. He was also a very generous and kind man, from helping care for his mother in her final years, to helping the El Paso-based fathers-in-law of his children and to any family member, neighbor or friend who needed help. He touched many lives and he will be forever missed by all who knew him and loved him.
Visitation for Armando will be held Wednesday, February 16, 2022, from 5PM to 9PM with a Rosary service at 7PM at Hillcrest Funeral Home, 1060 North Carolina Dr., El Paso, Texas 79915.
