Mando was a proud graduate of Bowie High School class of 1970 and attended Brown University on a basketball scholarship. His skills and charms afforded him the opportunity to work in the sales industry for 45 years. Mando was a talented multi-sport athlete, an avid sports fan, a gifted storyteller, and a great dancer. He will be remembered for his ability to strike up a conversation with anyone and his easy-going, kind nature. He was well known for his insatiable sweet tooth for cookies when enjoying his coffee. Everyone will especially miss Mando’s heartfelt smile always peeking under his infamous mustache.
Mando is preceded in death by his mother, Carmen; grandparents, Maria de la Luz, and Luis; cousins Jose and Matilde; and cherished friend and “little brother” Hector. Mando’s brother, Carlos will await Mando in Heaven, where they will forever enjoy their baseball and basketball games and watch over their loved ones.
Mando was greatly loved and will be deeply missed. His life will continue to be celebrated by his only daughter and pride, Alejandra Nieto, and his joy and partner, Irma Barron. Also cherishing his memory are his stepsons, Michael and Robert (despite their differences in sports teams); Mando’s treasured grand girls, Ana, Lexi, Audry, and Vivi; sister-in-law Maria Elena, niece and goddaughter, Lorena (Joe), nephews Charlie (Sylvia) and Louie (Isa); cousins Elva and Linda; and many dear friends and extended family members.
Visitation for Mando will be held Friday, September 6, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM with the prayer of the rosary beginning at 7:00 PM at Martin Funeral Home East. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church followed by interment at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
