Aurora Jauregui Apuan, affectionately known as "Orie" or "GG" (Gorgeous Grandma), passed away on July 23, 2023, after a sudden and unexpected illness. She was a remarkable woman who dedicated her life to serving and helping others in any way she could. Orie's unwavering love and compassion touched the hearts of many, leaving a lasting impact on all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Born and raised in El Paso, Orie graduated from Bel Air High School and went on to serve as a legal assistant for over 20 years before retiring. However, her most significant contributions were seen in her involvement with The Salvation Army Corps, where she served as the Corps Sergeant Major, embodying the organization's mission of helping those in need. Orie's leadership extended to her cherished "Friends Group," a women's ministry where she fostered a sense of camaraderie and support.
Orie had a flair for fashion and was known for her impeccable style. She had a particular fondness for anything fancy and loved donning striking animal prints. But her true beauty radiated from within as she warmly welcomed everyone she met with her infectious smile and open heart.
Adventures with her husband, Paul Apuan, were among Orie's fondest memories. They shared a love for exploring the world together, embarking on exciting journeys hand in hand. Their bond was a testament to the enduring power of love and companionship.
Together with Paul, Orie volunteered regularly, especially during the holidays, ringing the bell at the red kettles for The Salvation Army. She had a keen eye for spotting bargains while shopping and would often think, "someone will need this." Her generous spirit extended to her love for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who held a special place in her heart. Whenever they expressed their love for her, Orie's response was always, "I Love You More."
Orie's memory will forever live on in the hearts of her beloved family. She is survived by her devoted husband, Paul Apuan, her children, Esther Sanchez, Paula Apuan Wild, Jason Apuan, and her cherished stepson, Michael Solano (whom she embraced with the same love and affection as she did her biological children and extended her unconditional love to Michael, making him and his children and grandchildren an integral part of her family). Her 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren will forever cherish the love and wisdom she bestowed upon them.
She also leaves behind her loving sisters, Josie Vasquez Ochoa and Esther Wickenden, as well as her caring brothers, Robert Jauregui and Salvador Jauregui. Orie's legacy of love and compassion will continue to inspire and guide her family through their lives.
A memorial service to celebrate Aurora Jauregui Apuan's life will be held on Saturday, August 5th, at 11:00am at The Salvation Army Church, located at 4900 Hercules. In honor of her memory, the family kindly requests that donations be made to The Salvation Army El Paso Citadel in lieu of flowers.
