It is with deep sorrow and love that we announce the passing of Aurora Medrano Torres on December 21, 2024, at the age of 99. Known by some as “Ma Coyo” and others as “CoCoyo”, Aurora was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend whose life was marked by her boundless energy, generous spirit, and unwavering devotion to her family and community.
Aurora was born on June 7, 1925 to Aurelio Medrano and Victoria Garcia. She was one of seven siblings: Ramon, Consuelo, Pablo, Roberto, Aurelio, and Jesus. From a young age, Aurora demonstrated a tireless work ethic and an innate talent for building meaningful connections with others.
She married Jose Torres Carlos, and together had four children: Jose Angel, Norma Yolanda, Raul Aurelio, and Maria del Socorro. Her family was her greatest pride and joy, and her legacy continues through her surviving daughter, Norma Yolanda Apodaca, her cherished grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Aurora was a seamstress by trade. Her work not only sustained her family but also showcased her dedication to those she loved. When the garment factory where she worked closed, Aurora embraced a new chapter of life with characteristic resilience and determination. At the age of 72, she returned to school and earned her certificate as a nurse’s assistant, exemplifying her lifelong commitment to personal growth and helping others.
Aurora was a woman of extraordinary warmth who made friends wherever she went. Her home was always open, her table always welcoming, and her heart always generous. Her loving nature, combined with an incredible zest for life and “picante” sense of humor left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Aurora's family will forever treasure her memory, drawing inspiration from her example of hard work, kindness and resilience. As we say goodbye, we celebrate the extraordinary life of a woman who truly embodied love and generosity.
Rest in peace, Aurora. Your love and light will continue to shine in our hearts forever.
