

Carl Lenard DeKoatz was born in Chicago, IL, on January 22, 1930, to Herman and Clothilde DeKoatz. He grew up in Chicago, and served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1956. He graduated from the Army Ranger course in Fort Benning, Georgia, in 1952. After his honorable discharge, Carl went to work in the meat industry, which brought him to El Paso in 1974. Over the years he was an active member of Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church, various civic groups, and served as president of the Optimist Club, Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church, and the El Paso Youth Choir.
Carl and Joann DeKoatz were married in 1964, and together they raised Melissa, Brian, Carla, and Matthew DeKoatz. Carl was energetic, and he had an admirable work ethic. Bored after retiring from Prepared Foods, he went to work for Alpo. After JoAnn’s death in 1989, he went to work at Georgia’s Antiques.
Carl and Georgia DeKoatz were married on March 31, 1992. They operated Georgia’s Estate and Moving Sales for twenty years before they really retired.
Carl DeKoatz was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be sorely missed. He is predeceased by his parents, and Nora JoAnn DeKoatz. He is survived by his wife, Georgia DeKoatz, daughters Melissa (Al) Ruck and Carla (Steve) Fortnel, sons Brian (Carole) DeKoatz and Matthew DeKoatz, step-daughter Bekki (Leonard) King, four grandchildren: Carl A. DeKoatz, Valarie DeKoatz, Victoria DeKoatz, Clint King, and seven great-grandchildren: Ryland DeKoatz, Lilly DeKoatz, Angelo DeKoatz, Santiago DeKoatz, Malaky Garibaldi, Geabryl Ameduri, and Embyr Rose.
Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Lenae Rasmussen at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 19, at the Martin Funeral Home, 128 N. Resler.
