Our beloved Celia Lawler, age 75, was called home peacefully to be with her loving husband Federico Lawler Jr., on December 31, 2013 at 11:50am. Her pain and agony finally ceased. She is at peace in the arms of her Heavenly Father. Celia was born and raised in Mexico and moved to El Paso, TX at the age of 16. After marrying her lifetime partner, they journeyed together wherever life took them. Celia's mission in life was to make her husband and kids happy. Her home cooking nourished her family three times a day. Celia would not rest until she knew her family was well-fed. Her kids grew up in a household where "Te Quiero" was said at every turn. While Celia was widowed at 62, it did not stop her from enjoying life. Celia was a truly dignified, independent woman. Frequent were the stories of her keen fashion sense, especially with her favorite pastime of shopping. Day after day, Celia dressed to the par with stunning designerware and matching jewelry. Dressing to the hilt was part of who she was, even though she lived a very modest life. Throughout her existence, Celia had a plethora of hobbies. She enjoyed a variety of arts and crafts, including sewing blankets, putting together photo albums, and cooking for fun. She also never turned down the opportunity to babysit children. Once her home was spic-and-span, Celia let loose by catching a flick at the movies, and by playing the slots at her favorite casinos. Each night, however, she was back home to catch several hours of novelas on Univision. Celia is survived by her daughters, Letty Homan (Brett Homan), Olga Burkett (Jim Burkett), Sandra Price (Vince Price), and her son Freddy Vega (Domestic Partner, Ryan Simms); six granddaughters, Jacque Trevino, Naomi Jasso, Stephanie Chow, Ashley Chow, Chelsea Chow, Sarah Chow and four grandsons, Chris Riley, Nick Riley, Derek Homan, and Aaron Homan. Celia also had three great granddaughters, Savannah Jasso, Isabella Chow, and Mia Riley, along with two great grandsons, Xander Jasso and Calvin Riley. Celia was also well loved by her two brothers, Salvador Vega and Alberto Vega; and five sisters, Guadalupe Vega, Eufemia Aldaz, Carmen Ochoa, Alejandra Barcenas, and Maria Elena Portillo. She is preceded in death by her husband Federico Lawler Jr., brother Jose Vega, and her parents Jose Vega and Juana Aguirre de Vega. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 9:00 pm Sunday, January 5, 2014 at Hillcrest Funeral Home-Carolina with a Vigil Service at 7:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be at 9:30 am, Monday, January 6, 2014 at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Celia will be laid to rest with her beloved husband.
