Honor your Father and Mother, this is the first of God’s Ten Commandments that ends with a
promise. Ephesians 6:2
We honor our mother in Life and Death, in Sorrow and Love. On February 16, 1929, Clara was
born to Maximina Lucero and Jose Corona. She passed away into the arms of Jesus on May 2,
2022, at the age of 93.
What a joyous reunion it was when our mother was reunited with her husband and our father,
Reymundo (Bibi) Chavez, her beloved firstborn daughter “Margie”, her parents and her sister
Reina Tovar, and many members of her extended family.
Clara is survived by her twin daughters, Rachel “Gigi” (Carl Jay) and Terry (Armando Aguilar).
Her three sons, Bb Jr. (Vicky) of Kingwood, Tx, Richard (Ishbel), and Michael Chavez. Six
grandsons, Fonsie, Adrian, Miko, Gabriel, Robby, and Ryan. Six granddaughters, Jordan, Rachel,
Rebekah, Alexandra, Asa, and Danielle. Clara was also blessed with 10 great-grandchildren. She
is survived by her two sisters, Dr. Lucy Romeo and Christy Terrazas. We are forever thankful to
Maria Eugenia Perez, who was our mother’s friend and caregiver for the past 12 years.
Our mom was a woman before her time. She was a member of the Catholic Church. She
attended St. Mary’s and St. Joseph’s Academy Catholic Schools.
She shared joy and friendship with students as an office secretary at Jesuit High School,
Riverside High School, and Ysleta High School. In the evenings Clara worked with the Adult Basic
Education Department of The City as an English language instructor, which lead to several
adults graduating and receiving their U.S. citizenship.
In the summer months, she worked with the City of El Pasos’ Parks and Recreation Department,
where she taught young girls dance routines, and placed first in a city-wide competition. Clara
was also a Brownie and Girl Scout leader to her daughters and their friends.
Our mom found joy in prayer and her daily rosary. In music, dancing, playing her piano, and
reading. But most of all spending time with her family.
The visitation will be held from 5 pm to 6 pm Monday, May, 9th at Martin Funeral Home East,
1460 George Dieter El Paso Texas, 79936. Vigil to follow at 6 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at
9:30 am Tuesday, May 10th at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 10970 Bywood Dr, El Paso,
TX 79936. Interment will follow at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Bb Jr., Richard, and Michael Chavez, Armando Aguilar, Carl Jay and Miko Cubillos.
Honorary Pallbearers: Fonsie, Adrian and Gabriel Sanchez, Robby and Ryan Chavez, Steve
Barrow and Emilio Ornelas.
“Her question was always the same----- At close of day-----when darkness came---she the
supper would begin---she’d ask, “Are the children in?” -----and some day when our time is
done---upon this earth --- and one by one --- our family at God’s command---shall join her in
that promised land-----there in the midst of Margie and kin----------She’ll ask__”Are all the
children in?”
