

On August 11, 2017, Daniel M. Reade Sr., age 92 and patriarch of our family, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his parents: George and Josefina Reade; his son Daniel M. Reade Jr.; his brothers: George, Milton, James, Alexander, Jesse, Frank, and Craig Reade and his sister, Martha Ann.
He was a devoted and loving husband to Gloria, his surviving spouse of 67 years. A kind, supportive, and caring father to Dianne Beltran (Mike) and Dean (Tracy). He was respected and adored by his grandchildren Michael Wayne Beltran (Jessica) and Trisha Rae Reade (Rebeca). Left to cherish his memory are his great-grandchildren: Braedon, Dalin, Marcus, Mason, Lexi, Aaliyah, Alyssah, and Donaji. Also survived by his brother Albert “Pete” Reade and his sister, Josephine Huerta (Albert) of Gardena, Ca, who dearly loved and thought the world of their brother. Also survived by many caring and loving nephews, nieces, relatives, and friends.
Daniel was a WWII veteran who served proudly in the US Army in the European Theatre and was assigned to Co “I”, 134th Infantry Regiment, 35th Infantry Division that landed on Omaha Beach, Normandy, France, on July 5, 1944. His awards and decorations included: the Bronze Star with V Device; Purple Heart; Combat Infantryman Badge; Good Conduct Medal; American Campaign with Foreign Service Medal; European/African/Middle Eastern (ETO) Medal with two Bronze Stars and one Arrowhead. In addition, he received the BAR Rifle SS Medal; WWII Victory Medal; Occupation of Germany Medal; Ruptured Duck; and the Presidential Unit Citation. Served with the First and Third Army. Mr. Reade was wounded in combat on Sept. 30, 1944 in Nancy, France. Long life member of the VFW at large and a Waco Auxiliary Disabled American Veteran.
After his separation from the US Army, he was employed by Frigidaire Division of General Electric. He later accepted a position in the 95th Civil Engineering Squadron at Biggs Field Air Force Base and the Refrigeration Division at Fort Bliss before retiring from Civil Service in 1974.
In November 2008, he was honored by the Air Defense and Artillery Assoc. of Fort Bliss at a gala event celebrating “Heroes in History”. He was presented the Air Defense and Artillery Award for his wartime service in the WWII. He was also recognized as one of the few remaining WWII veterans of the “Greatest Generation” to serve our country.
In November 2013, he was recognized by the El Paso Intelligence Center and presented an American Eagle Plaque thanking him for his dedicated service and sacrifice in serving our country in WWII.
Pallbearers will be: Mike Beltran, Michael Beltran, Jesse Reade, Trisha Reade, Arturo Cordova, and Orlando Cordova. Honorary pallbearers: Pete Reade, Albert Huerta, and Mike Garcia Jr.
Mr. Reade was a devout Catholic and true patriot. When he arrives at the gates of heaven, he will undoubtedly, salute our Heavenly Father and exclaim, “PRIVATE FIRST CLASS Daniel M. Reade reporting for duty, SIR!”
