He is survived by his two brothers, CDR Joel F. Steadley (USN-Ret) and Hunter C. Steadley.
The child of a career Naval Officer; Dan spent his formative years following his father to duty stations in Norfolk, VA; Panama City, Fl; Long Beach, CA and Bonn, Germany. Upon his father’s retirement from active duty, he and his family settled in Severna Park, MD. Dan graduated from Severna Park High School where he was a stand-out athlete, playing both basketball and baseball, and a member of both the marching band and the jazz band.
Upon graduation, he attended Clemson University where he played in the marching band and was a member of the Clemson basketball team. After leaving Clemson, he attended both Anne Arundel Community College, where he played basketball and the University of Maryland.
Eschewing a traditional career path; Dan’s professional life included teaching middle school, working as a lobbyist for the Federal government, serving as a bar tender, working as a yacht broker, owning a horse stable and training facility, operating a long-haul sailboat trucking business and operating a health care provider practice.
While living in Severna Park, Dan developed a love for sailing. This love continued into his adult years where he was a crew member on sailboats in many noteworthy races including the Annapolis to Bermuda race and the Key West Race Week.
A friendly and generous individual, Dan was always willing to discuss politics, the reasons why the Clemson football team would be national champions and the best places to eat – regardless of the location. As noted by one of his friends “Dan was larger than life”.
He will be interred with his parents in the family plot in Euchee Valley, FL near a church founded be his Scottish ancestors.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Reynolds Home www.reynoldshome.org . Dan was both member of the Board of the Reynolds Home and an active volunteer.
