Dr. Harry Bill William Demarest

Dr. Harry William (Bill) Demarest, only child of Harry C. and Frances Kinselia Demarest, died peacefully at home, Sunday, September 18, 2011 surrounded by family. He was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on January 12, 1923 and was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife of 58 years, Josephine, daughter Rosalyn Demarest Rupp, and grandson Cody Demarest. Dr. Demarest is survived by his six children, Jeff Demarest, JoEllen (Jay) Nye, Scott Demarest, Susan Flynn, Cindy (Jay) Schroeder and Bob (Barbara) Demarest. He is also survived by his sixteen grandchildren, Brian, Stephen and Aaron Rupp, Robby and Jason Nye, Lacy Brewer, Leah Wallis, Shawn, Joe and Jean Demarest, Daniel Irwin, and Sarah Jo, Kathy, and Robert Demarest, and Demare and Mapes Flynn, and eight great-grandchildren, Noah, Allyn and Dylan Brewer, Wesly and William Nye, and Benjamin Wallis and Isaac and Sierra Rupp.

Dr. Demarest received his Bachelor of Science degree from St. John Baptist University, and his Bachelor and Doctor of Medicine degrees from Northwestern University. On June 17, 1944 he married Josephine McGuire. Following his service in the Army and his post graduate training, the family moved to El Paso where he has lived since 1953. Dr. Demarest was in private practice from 1953 until 1988 and loved to talk about the year he delivered over 700 babies. He was a member of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, The American College of Surgeons, The Texas State Board of Medical Examiners, member and past president of Southwest OBGYN, member and past president of the Serra Club, Sierra International and until his death an active member of St. Raphael’s Catholic Church.

The Demarest Family will receive family and friends on Thursday, September 22, 2011 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm with recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 pm at Funeraria Del Angel Martin East Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, September 23, 2011 at 1:00 pm at St. Raphael Catholic Church. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at Memory Gardens of the Valley Cemetery in Santa Teresa, New Mexico where Dr. Demarest will be laid to rest.
