Elizabeth Michelle Scanlon left us unexpectedly on February 16, 2017. She was a devoted family member who worked hard, had a bubbly personality and was passionate about helping children. Michelle was born in El Paso on October 15, 1967, graduated from Hanks High School, and worked as a Property Tax Consultant for Elliott Smith and Associates. As a member of both the Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America El Minya Court No. 46 and Daughters of the Nile Rosetta Temple No. 61, she was dedicated to helping Shriner’s Hospital children. Michelle was a tenacious, goal-oriented, meticulous dresser that loved pink and purple and was an uncanny family event organizer. She loved life, people, America, teddy bears, Jeff Dunham and George Strait. With an “is that the best you’ve got” attitude, she overcame monumental health challenges that included a staph infection, surgeries, dialysis, blindness, and a kidney transplant in October 2016. Michelle is preceded in death by her paternal grandmother Elizabeth Scanlon and is survived by her paternal grandfather John R Scanlon, JR along with her parents, John R and Elizabeth “Bonnie” Scanlon III, Ron and Willie Smith, two brothers, two sisters, three nephews, three nieces and several aunts and uncles. In lieu of flowers, donations to Michelle’s memory may be made to the El Maida Shrine Transportation Fund, 6331 Alabama, El Paso, TX, 79904. The 6:00 PM memorial service will be held at Hillcrest Funeral Home, 1060 N. Carolina, 915-598-3332 on Thursday, February 23rd.
