

Emily Dempster Grambling passed away Friday, August 24, 2012. She is preceded in death by her husband John Allen Grambling, parents Ryland and Dorothy Dempster, sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Frank Williams and brother and sister-in-law Ryland and Catherine Dempster, sister-in-law Patricia Harvey and brother-in-law Phil Harvey. Emily was born in Baltimore, Maryland on July 29, 1923 and attended Duke University and UCLA were she studied to be a nurse. As a young woman, she moved with her family to San Francisco, California during World War II and it was there that she met and married her husband of 62 years, John Grambling while he was serving in the United States Navy. After John graduated from University of Texas School of Law, they moved to El Paso where John began his legal career and they raised their family. Emily was a kind and gracious lady who was very devoted to her family. She was involved in many civic and community organizations in El Paso. She continued her work with the American Red Cross which she began during her time in San Francisco as well as being very active in the Junior League of El Paso, the Sun Carnival, The El Paso Bar Auxiliary, Coronado High School PTA, St. Clement’s Church and The Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a gemologist and enjoyed making jewelry for members of the family. She also loved traveling with her family, fishing, playing golf and dancing with her husband. She is survived by her three sons and their wives, John A. Grambling, Jr. and Kathleen, Ronald R. Grambling and Melissa and Randolph H. Grambling and Robin. She is also survived by grandchildren, John A.(Jay) Grambling, III, Gregory D. Grambling and wife Katherine, Stephen W. Grambling and wife Luciana, Christopher E. Grambling and wife Katherine, Emily Grambling Willick and husband Michael, Jason R. Grambling, Randolph Holt Grambling, Jr. and wife Micaela, Preston S. Grambling,
Ryan O. Grambling and Wm. Chase Grambling, and great-grandchildren,
Christian Willick and Samantha Grambling and many nieces, nephews and friends. She will be missed by all who loved her. The family would like to express their gratitude to Frances, Isabel and George for the care given to their mother. Funeral services will be held at the Church of St. Clement on Tuesday, August 28 at 2:00 p.m. with The Rev. William C. Cobb officiating.
