George was born in Skiatook, Oklahoma to George and Nora Bassett. He was educated at Oklahoma University, Boston University and UTEP earning a Bachelor of Arts and Letters, a Master of Arts and a Master in Education.
He worked for EPISD and was a teacher, an Assistant Principal at Logan Elementary, Henderson Middle School, Principal at Zach White Elementary, Language Arts Facilitator and a Director in Human Resources for Personnel Administration.
George and Ruth married in 1972 and enjoyed 53 years together. They welcomed their twins, Christopher George and Rebekah Ruth in 1976. George was also the father of Roxanne Bassett, Charlotte Sellers, Peggy Bassett, Grant Bassett, dec. and Mary Bassett.
George and Ruth spent their retirement years traveling to Europe, Scandinavia and Russia, the Caribbean, Puerto Rico, The Panama Canal and South America, Alaska, Hawaii, and their beloved New York City.
George is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Virginia, his brother Bill, grandson Stoney and his precious son Grant.
George and Ruth were supporters of El Paso Pro Musica and the El Paso Symphony.
A private, family graveside service will be held.
