

George passed away on March 28, 2015 at the age of 95 in the arms of his loving wife of 73 years, Alice.
George grew up in a family of 9 boys. He left Arkansas at the age of 18 to enlist in the United States Army. He was assigned to the First Calvary Field Artillery at Fort Bliss. In 1937 after his enlistment, he worked for the El Paso Electric Company. George was a World War II veteran having been inducted into the 8th Army Air Force in 1942 and served in England. He returned to El Paso and was employed by El Paso Natural Gas Company for 35 years.
George was a student of the Bible. In 1994, he earned a certificate from the Moody Bible Institute for the study of the Old Testament. He loved to write and chronicled his life in a daily journal. He published a book of poetry for and about his family.
He is survived by wife, Alice Bryant West; daughter, Sandra West Houghton (Bill); sons: Ronald Bryant West (Virginia) and Gary Albert West; grandchildren Melby West Huerta (Homer), Matthew West (Kim) and Jenny VanNess (Eric); 6 great grandchildren, Robert Huerta, Zachary Huerta, Alexander West, Alyson West, Austin VanNess and Lily VanNess and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2015 at 12 noon with Funeral Service to commence at 1:00 p. m. at First Baptist Church Ford Chapel, 805 Montana Ave. Interment will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. 5200 Fred Wilson Dr. Services were entrusted to Harding-Orr & McDaniel Funeral Home, 320 Montana Ave.
