

Gerald Vincent Quinnan, Sr., age 92, of El Paso and formerly of Saginaw, MI, and Needham,
MA, passed away peacefully at Monte Vista at Coronado in El Paso on April 17, 2016.
Mr. Quinnan was born on August 8, 1923, in Saginaw, third oldest of the nine children of
Gerald John and Loretta (Byerlein) Quinnan.
Mr. Quinnan attended General Motors Institute in Flint, MI, and later the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology in Cambridge, where he earned a degree in mechanical engineering.
After World War II, he participated in the design of long-range guided missiles. While in
Boston he met and married Mary Lally of Newton, MA. They settled in Needham, MA,
where they raised seven children. Mr. Quinnan worked independently in both real estate
sales and investment, and as an insurance consultant and broker. He was very devoted
to his Catholic faith and a longtime active parishioner of St. Joseph’s Parish in
Needham. Mary passed away in 1983. One son, John, died at birth, and another son,
Christopher, passed away in 2014.
In 1984, Mr. Quinnan married Marie (Loustaunau) Carrasco, of Falls Church, Virginia,
formerly of El Paso, whose spouse, Michael Carrasco, Jr., had passed away in 1976.
They moved to El Paso in 1987. Marie passed away in 2008.
Mr. Quinnan was a founder and longtime parishioner of St. Luke’s parish in El Paso. He
prayed the rosary on weekday mornings there and attended Mass daily. When the
parish was started, Mr. Quinnan volunteered his business expertise to help with planning
and fundraising for construction. He was also an ardent supporter of overseas
missions and active in prison ministry and civic organizations. Mr. Quinnan had a deep
respect and love of the immigrant community and their contributions. He enjoyed playing
both tennis and golf and in later years was an avid follower of professional golf and
other sports tournaments. His other hobbies included flower and vegetable gardening.
Mr. Quinnan is survived by six children, three step-children, and their spouses: James
and Kathleen Quinnan; Dr. Gerald Jr. and Dr. Leigh Sawyer Quinnan; Stephen and
Rose Mary Quinnan; Mary Loretta (Quinnan) and John McCormick; Mark and Mary
Anne Quinnan; Joseph Quinnan; Carlotta (Carrasco) and Wayne Rittenour; Michael
Carrasco (his wife, Jane, passed away in March); Stephen and Mary Carrasco; and by
numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister: Frances
McCarty of Shelby Twp., MI, many members of the extended Loustaunau family, and his
very dear longtime friends and helpers, Martin and Laura Martinez. A Rosary will be held Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at 7:00 pm at St. Luke Catholic Church 930 E. Redd Rd. El Paso, TX 79912. A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, May 12, 2016 at 11:00 am at St. Luke Catholic Church.
