Geraldine “Haifa” Abraham Malooly, Matriarch of the Malooly family, was born in El Paso, Texas, on April 03, 1934. She is the daughter of Helen “Naima” Abraham and Joseph Abraham Sr. She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Gilbert Malooly Sr., children, Chris (Elva), Gilbert (Rose), Greg (Sylvia), and Cheryl (Paul), and seven grandchildren Brittney, Chris Jr, Macy, Zachary, Monique, Gilbert III (GEM), and Coury. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Joseph “Sib” Abraham Jr. and Edward Abraham, and sister Joanne Chagra. She graduated from El Paso High School and attended TSCW (Texas State College for Women). She then met and married the love of her life Gilbert Malooly Sr. and started a beautiful family.
At one point in her life she felt she could help her husband grow his father’s business–Casa Carpet Wholesale Distributors–, which she did, to become the largest independent distributor of carpet, tile, and wood- number #1 in the El Paso Southwest. At the beginning, she was instrumental in helping Gilbert Sr. form G.E.M. Real Estate Investments, a property management and real estate investment company.
Haifa was a member of several clubs throughout her lifetime. She was a member of St. George Orthodox Christian Church throughout her lifetime and carried that role with her wherever she went.
Of special note was her optimistic nature and unflagging support to all members of the family. Her subtle wisdom and loving character will surely be missed.
A special thanks to Dr. Edward Assi, Dr. Muneer Assi, Dr. Genovive Belgrave, Dr. George Hallow, Dr. Thomas Alost and Dr. Carlo Hatem. We would be remiss if we did not mention our beloved Cheryl, her daughter and best friend, who took care of Haifa on a day-to-day basis.
Pallbearers are Ronald Christopher Malooly Jr., Gilbert Elias Malooly III (GEM), Coury Malooly, Zachary Malooly, Lee Chagra Jr., Frank Burrull, Caesar Sandate, Patrick Finnegan and Josh Karam. Family and friends are all honorary pallbearers.
Services will be conducted by Martin West Funeral Home with the Trisagion Services beginning at 6:00 PM Tuesday April 14, 2015. St. George Orthodox Church will host at 10:00 AM prayers followed by internment in a mausoleum at Restlawn Cemetery on Wednesday April 15, 2015 with mercy dinner to follow at Summit Ballroom (120 N Festival Dr.).
Mother: “We have been greatly blessed to have had such a beautiful strong woman to raise us. With your strength you have showed us nothing is impossible. You have taught us that life is precious and to appreciate every moment. We couldn’t have made it without you. All your hard work, love and effort are greatly appreciated. You are not only our Mother and the person that gave us life, but our best friend, our hero, our angel, our Queen. We only hope to be as strong as you as we continue our journey in life. We love you more than anything in this world. Thank you for everything Mommy.”
