

SZEYKO Gregory H. Szeyko, M.D. was born on June 4, 1942. He passed away at age 70 on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 with his family at his side. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rt. Reverend Gregory H. Szeyko and Matushka Lucy Wan Szeyko. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Carol L. Szeyko, his son Gregory H. Szeyko III, his daughter Larissa A. Szeyko, his son-in-law David Brooks, and his grandchildren Caitlin and Ethan Brooks. He is also survived by his sister Elaine Szeyko and his cousins Dorothy and Donald Kish, Michael, Robert and Tom Toth, and Anthony Seyko. Dr. Szeyko was born in Jersey City, New Jersey. He graduated from Wilkes College in Pennsylvania with an A.B. degree in 1964. He was then awarded a Master's degree in Microbiology from West Virginia University and joined their School of Medicine in 1967, earning his M.D. in 1971. He completed an Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine at Albany Medical Center Hospital followed by a Fellowship in Infectious Diseases at Albany Medical College. In 1976 he moved with his family to El Paso, TX to take a position as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Texas Tech University School of Medicine. In 1978 he entered into private practice and celebrated his love of teaching by continuing to give lectures to professional groups on a diversity of topics and by coordinating professional symposia for the medical community. He served on a number of medical committees at Sierra Medical Center and Providence Hospital, and served for several years as Medical Director of Home Health Care at each hospital. In 1998 he was awarded professional certification in Chronic Wound Management and became the Medical Director of the Providence Wound Institute where he devoted the remainder of his career until his death. In 2011 he was appointed Adjunct Professor for the Biomedical Research department at UTEP and was working to help advance research into novel wound therapies. He was devoted to his family, his profession, the people he worked with, and his patients. He will be missed greatly. Funeral Services will be held at Restlawn Memorial Park on Friday, September 21st at 11 AM. A memorial service will follow at 2 PM at The Church of St. Clements, with The Rev. William C. Cobb officiating. Active Pallbearers will be Dr. Manny Alvarez, Mr. John Butterworth, Dr. Gerard Crecca, Dr. Jesus A. Gomez, Mr. David Lindau, Mr. Jeffrey Lucky, Dr. Patricio Pazmino, and Mr. Perry Pielaet. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mr. Joseph Del Valle, Mr. William Dilg, Mr. John Shipman, and Dr. Arturo Vargas.
