

Gretchen Helene Hartley passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, January 7, 2015. Gretchen was born on October 18, 1926, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Adolf and Marie Munzinger. The family moved to El Paso, Texas in 1929, and Gretchen attended Austin High School and later Ysleta High School, graduating in 1942. She received a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Texas College of Mines in 1946. She was a member of the Tri-Delta sorority, and an active alumni.
Gretchen married Weyman A. Hartley in 1949, and they had three children, Patricia, Michael and Gregory. She taught at every level of elementary and high school over the course of her thirty three year career with the El Paso and Canutillo Independent School Districts.
Gretchen led an active life, involved in politics with Pro America and numerous organizations with the Catholic Church. She was a founding parishioner of St. Matthews Catholic Church, teaching catechism for twenty four years. Gretchen worked tirelessly for the St.
Vincent De Paul Society while attending Queen of Peace Catholic Church.
Gretchen loved to travel, play golf, cook and was devoted to her husband and family. Her grandchildren and great grandchild were the joys of her life. She never met someone she could not love.
Gretchen is survived by her husband, Weyman, and her three children, Patricia
Gordon, and husband Jim, of Benbrook, Texas, Michael Hartley, and wife, Sharron, of
Waxahachie, Texas, and Gregory Hartley, and wife Lorry, of El Paso, Texas, her brothers Fritz Munzinger, and wife Joan, of Phoenix, Arizona, and Richard Munzinger, of El Paso, Texas, her grandchildren Alex, Brian, Kirsten, Allison, Megan, Rachel and Jake, and her great grandchild, Colton.
Pall Bearers will be nephews Ricky Munzinger, Eric Munzinger, Kurt Munzinger, Neil Munzinger and grandsons Alex Gordon and Brian Gordon.
The family extends its gratitude to Dr. Craig Branch for his kindness and dedicated care of Gretchen during the last several years.
Visitation will be held Monday, January 12, 2015, from 5:00 P. M. to 9:00 P.M. with Rosary at 7:00 P.M. at Martin Funeral Home West. Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at 11:30 A. M. at the Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 1551 Belvidere St., El Paso, Texas 79912. Interment will follow at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery at 1:30 P.M.
