Guadalupe "Lupe" B. Cubillos

Guadalupe B. Cubillos, who had just celebrated her 103rd Birthday with her family, went to her eternal home on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 to spend Christmas with her only son, Andres Carrillo Jr., her parents, Tomas and Gabrielita Briseno, Marcelina Moreno, her aunt and David Cubillos, her husband, who preceded her in death. Lupe was born on December 2, 1917 and was a life-long resident of El Paso, Texas. She attended Guardian Angel Catholic School and was known for her great faith, musical talent and her zest for life.

Lupe began playing piano when she was 12 years old. She was an excellent cook and made awesome enchiladas. She later began her sales career working at numerous well-known Fashion Stores and retired from the Popular Department Store after 30 years. She was an amazing saleswoman, who absolutely loved people and welcomed everyone with open arms.

Lupe’s love for music led her to excel at the piano and she was later contracted to perform at numerous locations throughout the El Paso area, such as the Plaza Hotel, the Officer’s Club at Ft. Bliss and White Sands, the Holiday Inn and the Rodeway Inn, to name a few. During her years as a pianist, Lupe was also contracted by renowned pianists and musicians such as, Miguel Rosas Orchestra, Doug Nelson, and Mike Caranda. Lupe later organized and led her own group called the “Star Dust Combo”. A fall, which caused a broken arm, eventually led Lupe to give up her professional piano days, but music was always in her heart and soul, which she passed onto her son, Andy Carrillo Jr., who also played piano.

Although her son preceded her in death a few years ago, he continued her tradition inheriting her great love for music, along with his wife and daughters and served and played for many churches throughout the Diocese of El Paso and Las Cruces. Lupe’s granddaughters, who are all part of the church music ministry, currently serve the El Paso community at various events, to include ACTS Retreats, as their music expresses their great love for God, which was rooted from their beloved grandmother’s legacy.

Lupe was a well-respected and classy- lady, who was always prim and proper. She was an amazing grandmother, who loved her family deeply and strived to learn new things and keep active. In her 90’s, she learned to paint, loved arts and crafts, knitting, bingo, and we could never beat her at dominoes. She was a humble woman and a constant reminder of the importance of family, spending time with each other and not forgetting the small things, such as each other’s birthdays. She was always up for a celebration and loved Mariachi’s.

Lupe stressed through her example, more-so than words, the importance of praying for each other daily and thanking God for all the blessings in our lives. Although her departure leaves a void in our hearts, we are eternally grateful to God for having allowed us the privilege of having an “Angel” for a grandmother and allowing us to spend her final hours with her, as we sent her home for Christmas. What a celebration of a Life well spent! We love you Grandma and will miss you greatly.

Survivors: Her beloved daughter-in-law, Lidia Carrillo, granddaughters, Marylou, Lupe, Lydia, and Lorie and great grandchildren, Michael, Marie, Matthew, Andrea, Stephen, and Anjela.

All services will be private due to the current restrictions. Rosary and Funeral Services will be held on December 29, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. but will be “Live streamed” on the Martin Funeral Home (West) Facebook page.
