Hector Conejo, 66, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away in San Antonio, Texas on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, surrounded by his family. He was a lifelong resident of El Paso, Texas, and a devoted member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lydia Sanchez Conejo, and infant brother, Javier.
Hector is survived by his wife of 46 years, Dora; daughters Michelle (husband Vu Nguyen) of San Antonio, Diane (husband Francisco Adrian Castro), and son, Hector Rene; grandchildren Ariana, Ethan, Emma, Julian, Jacob, and great-grandchild, Christian Hector. He is also survived by his father, Genovevo Conejo, his sisters Annie (husband Steve Zubia), Dolly, Yolie (husband Frank Gallardo), Norma, and brothers Rogelio and Roberto (Bobby). He has many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Hector was born on August 31, 1955, in Ysleta, Texas, and attended Riverside High School. He met his soulmate, Dora E. Ramirez, in 1972 at a bus stop and they married on September 20, 1975. He was an avid animal lover owning roosters, ducks, birds, rabbits, cats, dogs; and he especially loved the family dog (Murphy) with all his heart. He enjoyed listening to music and he loved working with his hands. His last project was building a beautiful birdhouse to provide shelter during the cold winter weather in San Antonio. It will be treasured always.
Hector was a driven professional with an unmatched work ethic. He was always generous and effortlessly became friends with many co-workers over the years. He worked for a car wash, then furniture and window companies around El Paso in the 70s and 80s before starting his own business, Glass Masters of El Paso. After that, he worked for many years as a bus driver for Sun Metro. He later became a long-haul truck driver until he became ill in December 2013. He loved going on the road with his wife and they shared many adventures. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
The family would like to thank the staff of Methodist Specialty and Transplant Hospital in San Antonio, Texas for their treatment and kindness.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, February 4, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home East, 1460 George Dieter Dr. in El Paso, Texas. Service to begin promptly at 5:00 p.m.
