Idell Rothstein passed away in Austin on February 27, 2017. She was born to Mike and Mary Snider in El Paso in 1920. She idolized her older brother, Bobby, and she loved looking after her younger brother, Irving. Idell met her future husband, Hy, when he offered her a ride home after services at B’nai Zion Synagogue. He was ten years older and her friends warned her that the romance would not last; but Hy and Idell enjoyed almost fifty years together. They were deeply in love. Together they operated Hy’s Plumbing Service for four decades. Their clients were welcomed by Idell’s lyrical voice when she answered the business phone and they knew that their problems would soon be solved when they heard Hy whistling a tune as he entered their houses. Idell and Hy were active members of Temple Mt. Sinai. In retirement, Idell enjoyed playing bridge with her close friends and she became an accomplished artist. Her oil paintings and water colors grace the walls of many of her friends and family members. Idell is survived by her children Roberta (Larry), Phillip (Ann), and Marlene (Gary); her grandchildren Jeni, Michele, Amy (Steve), Annie (Michelle), and Sarah; and her great grandchildren Emily, Ellie, Jake, Zach, and Max.
Graveside services will be Thursday, March 2, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Temple Mt. Sinai Cemetery. Rabbi Ben Zeidman will officiate. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Rosen, Gary Scher, Steve Sulgrove, Ronald Saltzman, and Sam Belford. If you wish to honor her memory, the family suggests donations to Temple Mt. Sinai. www.martinfuneralhomewest.com
