Irene "Nene" D. Villegas

Irene “Nene” D. Villegas passed away Thursday, March 24, 2016 at the age of 80. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and mother-in-law and will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her father: Victor Diaz, mother: Maria Elena Romero, brother: Manuel V. Diaz, and nephew: Louis A. Maesse. She is survived by her children: Thomas Duran Sr. (Lety), Ruben Villegas (Cynthia), Monica Villegas (Raul), grandchildren: Jessica Duran, Thomas Duran Jr; Krystal Duran, Romeo Rodriguez, Chloe Rodriguez, Diego Villegas, great-grandchildren Nevea Ruvalcaba, Zion Salinas, sisters: Raquel Tafoya (Audon), Martha Maesse, brother: Mike Romero Jr. (Olga), several nephews, and nieces. She attended Guardian Angel Elementary School, and enjoyed playing basketball there. She attended Austin High School, and Texas Western (UTEP). She went on to work for White Sands Missile Range, Department of Army Civil Service as a computer programmer for 35 years before retiring in 1992. She enjoyed playing poker, bingo, bowling, dancing, and the slot machines at the casinos. After retiring she operated the bingo for the Sisters of the Good Shepherd Convent for several years. She enjoyed traveling, and spending time with family, and friends. Visitation will be 5:00-9:00pm, Friday, April 1, 2016, at Hillcrest-Carolina with vigil at 7:00pm. Funeral mass will be at 10:00am Saturday, April 2, 2016, at Santo De Nino Atocha, 210 S. Clark. Interment will follow at Evergreen East Cemetery. Services entrusted to Hillcrest Funeral Home, 1060 N.
