

Irma G. Mondragon, a devoted wife, loving mother, and grandmother passed away on February 27, 2016 at the age of 79. Irma was called home by God upon a brief encounter with cancer and was surrounded by her family during her last peaceful days. Irma was born in Culiacan, Sinaloa raised by her parents, Gen. Roman Gonzalez and Ramona Andrade. Irma married her soul mate, Raul R. Mondragon in 1959, who passed away in August 2015. She devoted her heart and entire life to their 55 years of marriage, their four children and greatest joy, their eight grandchildren. Irma’s favorite past times was sewing and crochet. She enjoyed the theater, music, reading periodicals, and keeping up with current events. Wearing orange and blue with pride, Irma was an enormous fan of UTEP Miner Athletics; she especially loved Coach Keitha Adams and her Lady Miners Basketball team. While Irma embodied the traditional values of her time; she was remarkably ahead of her time with an outspoken conviction for her acceptance and love of all people with different lifestyles. She espoused Christian values of family, inclusion tolerance and forgiveness. Irma’s love for her family and strength in character is the legacy she leaves. Irma is survived by her four children and families: Son, Raul Jr, and wife Anna Walsh-Mondragon; daughter Elizabeth and husband Herman Contreras; daughter Lourdes and husband Gjermund Kvalem; son Alberto and wife Rocio Mercado-Mondragon; Grandchildren: Benjamin, Natalia, Gabi, Joanna, Nick, Ivan, Tatiana, and Mateo. She is also survived by her sister Maria Dolores Gonzalez, and her beloved family. In lieu of flowers, the Mondragon family would appreciate any donations to the American Cancer Society. Services will take place on Friday, March 18 from 9:30-10:30AM at Hillcrest Funeral Home 1060 N. Carolina in El Paso. Inurnment to immediately follow after service at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
