Faithful Servant of Christ, Beloved Pastor, Devoted Husband, Cherished father, Cherished Grandfather.
Pastor Jack C. Berg, a faithful shepherd, loving husband, and pillar of the El Paso community, entered the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 15th 2025, at the age of 83.
For over 45 years, Pastor Berg dedicated his life to preaching the Gospel and shepherding the congregation at Sun Valley Baptist Temple, where his unwavering faith, compassionate spirit, and bold proclamation of truth touched countless lives. As the spiritual leader of both the church and Northeast Christian Academy, he poured himself into generations of families, equipping them not only academically, but spiritually—for the glory of God.
Pastor Berg believed with all his heart that life is a precious gift from God, and that the only way to eternal life is through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. His life was a living testimony of that truth. He preached it, lived it, and extended it with grace and urgency to all who would listen.
Though few knew it, Pastor Berg bore physical pain daily from a childhood bout with polio. Yet he never allowed his suffering to define him. He walked with quiet strength and dignity, never drawing attention to his limitations, but always pointing others to the boundless strength found in Christ.
As a husband, Jack was deeply devoted to his beloved wife Sue Berg, with whom he shared 45 beautiful years of marriage until her passing. Together, they built a Christ-centered home filled with love, faith, and purpose. In time, God graciously brought Josie Berg into his life, and for the past 18 years, Jack found renewed companionship and joy in their union. He spoke often, and with heartfelt pride, of all his children and grandchildren, cherishing each one as a unique and precious gift from the Lord. His love for his family was steady and unconditional—a reflection of the Father’s love he preached so faithfully.
Beyond the pulpit, Pastor Berg was active in numerous community and civic organizations. He was a founding member of the Northeast Prayer Breakfast, served on the Northeast Civic Council, the Board of the YMCA, and was a proud and active Rotarian. He also worked tirelessly with CHIA (Christian Hands in Action), furthering the mission of Christian service locally and abroad.
A man of many interests, he had a deep love for photography, history, and diving—and held a special place in his heart for Israel and God’s chosen people. His curiosity, love for learning, and adventurous spirit were matched only by his love for Christ.
Jack C. Berg lived his life with eternity in mind. Every sermon, every conversation, every act of kindness pointed people heavenward. His race is now complete, and he has received his reward—a life well-lived in service to his Savior.
He leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, and love that will endure for generations. Jack was preceded in death by his first wife Billy Sue (Becker) Berg; parents DelMonte and Elizabeth (Carmack) Berg; and brother George Walters. Jack is survived by his wife Josie Berg; two children: Mark (Leann) Berg of Loomis, Nebraska and Deborah Berg of El Paso; three step-children: Andrew Duffy, Lorraine Grisez, Katrina Amsler; 10 grandchildren: Tim (Adrienne) Berg, Rebecca (Eric) Colbert, Amanda Berg, Noah Zuck, Charles Ramirez, Cassandra Lacey, Zoe Grisez, Cameron Ramirez, Dru “QB” Duffy and Olivia Duffy; 4 great-grandchildren: Ethan Berg, Tristan Berg, Ava Colbert and Harrison Colbert; one sister Carol Berg and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
